[WIN – closed] Fact Friday – Thor Ragnarok

In celebration of Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok releasing today we’ve teamed up with Disney Africa to make this week’s Fact Friday a little more  exciting ;)

I have two hampers worth R400 a hamper containing some awesome Thor : Ragnarok related merchandise including a backpack and card wallet (do you think I could keep one?)

I’ll admit that I am that person who always mixes up DC and Marvel. Yes I know, I’m a horrible person that should be flogged (and I often get a good talking to from friends), but I’ve never really been able to remember who is who I’m sorry. But actually do really enjoy watching Thor  as much as Fysh does. But probably for different reasons…

Let’s share our facts with you and then when you’ve read them you’ll find out how you can stand a chance to win yourself your kidlet a hamper :)

Five Fabulous Facts :

  • Ragnarok translates to “the end of the universe” in Norse mythology
  • Director Taika Waititi not only directs, but also plays a new CGI character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe named Korg (how’s that for a fun Easter egg to keep an eye out for!)
  • Hela, one of Thor’s most formidable enemies from the comics, is the first leading female villain in any of the Marvel Studios’ feature films to date!
  • The film is the first feature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to shoot not only in Australia, but in the entire Southern Hemisphere.
  • On the first day of principal photography, a local Maori tribe performed a ceremonialdance to bless the crew in hopes for a smooth shoot. Eighty-four days of successful shooting later, the tribe returned and delivered a beautiful closing ceremony as a culmination to an incredible experience of filming on native land in Australia.

Right, now that I’ve shared some of my knowledge of the new Thor you can enter to win one of those hampers by simply imparting upon us an interesting Thor fact in the comments. Anything goes, so long as it’s not the same as what someone else has posted.

Ends 3 November 2017

  1. Thor is referred to in the day of the week Thursday (“Thor’s day” from Old English ThunresdĂŚg, ‘Thunor’s day’)

  2. In the comics, Thor acts as a superhero while maintaining the secret identity of Dr. Donald Blake – this fact is only ever mentioned once in the movies!

    1. So he’s kinda a whole superman vibe going there?! How awesome is that? And now I’m going to binge watch all the movies to find that mention hahaha

  3. Thor’s magical hammer Mjolnir isn’t the only weapon Thor relies upon in the Marvel Comics universe. His enchanted Belt of Strength is also an important—if frequently overlooked—element of his arsenal, as it enhances his strength to almost double its otherwise impressive level. In Norse mythology, these two items are accompanied by magical, iron gloves that allow him to wield Mjolnir.

    1. Interesting fact…Thor is hot…oh you already knew that one. In the Thor movie his hair is cut short when becoming a gladiator, and the person cutting his hair is Stan Lee.

  4. In the comics Thor is a name/almost a title for the person who wields the hammer. Oden’s son is not called Thor – see the 2014 Thor run, where Thor is a woman.

  5. Thor doesn’t actually have the power to fly. When Thor “flies”, all he’s doing is throwing his hammer with super strength and then holding onto it until he reaches his destination.

  6. According to Norse mythology, Thor and his fellow Gods are granted immortality by eating magic apples that only grow in Asgard. In keeping with the mythology, in the comics, Thor would return to Asgard periodically for some of those sweet apples, proving that apples aren’t all that bad.

  7. As a prank, Loki once transformed Thor into a frog. An actual frog. Thor subsequently participated in a rats vs. frogs war in New York’s Central Park. Even when he got his hammer back, he transformed back only half way, to a frog man. Fellow god and humorless friend Volstagg ultimately returned Thor to his fully normal self.

  8. Thor has a half-brother named Atum who every now and then becomes Demogorge, the god-eater who would kill Gods and then consume them and gain their powers. Because when you’re hungry, you’re just not yourself.

  9. Thor is associated with many things. He is well-known for being linked to thunder, lightning, storms and strength, but he was also known as the protector of mankind and partly responsible for healing, fertility and law and order.
Thor has over ten different names in Norse mythology.
He was married to goddess Sif.
Thor is often described as having fierce eyes and red hair.
Thor loved fighting – using his war hammer, Mjollnir, a magical belt that made him twice as strong, and iron gauntlets (gloves).
He also enjoyed feasting and drinking.

  10. Ok.. so all the facts on Thor have been listed.. so my one is this ….Thor (the actor of course) is a HOTTIE.. short hair or long hair, that man is a total prince charming :-)
