DAY NINETEEN > Modern Monroe

SO many people ask me where I get my hair done and are gobsmacked when I say “in my bathroom” but it’s true, I do it myself (though The Person does help occasionally as you’ve seen) and you know what? I save a good 1 to 2 thousand rand doing it myself because yes, that’s what I’ve been quoted. Either they come up with some ridiculous number that has me break out in a nervous sweat cause that’s my monthly car payment or they simply say they can’t/won’t do it. So the answer was I’ll do it myself then. I’ve had a good few years experience now but I promise you it really isn’t all that hard. You can see a step by step how to I posted > DIY Galaxy hair / Step by Step Mermaid Hair

Now there are tons of dye’s out there you can use and I’ve pretty much tried them all, obviously because I stay the colour I am more constantly now it works out better for me to buy my colour powder in bulk (a kg bag at a time) which lasts longer and works out easier on the budget.

I’ve used skullour and thought I’d introduce you to them cause J is so easy to work with and order from and she’s pretty well priced as well so if you don’t win go order from her direct > Modern Monroe Online Shop.

J had 10 assorted bottles delivered (1 bottle will last you roughly 3/4 dyes depending on how long your hair is. if short or just streaks then double that) 5 of her colours and 5 of her new platinum ice one (add it to a colour and it goes pastel or do it alone and it goes white). I’m actually considering grabbing one of the platinum ice to see how it turns out cause I haven’t been able to find what I use in white yet. But don’t worry, I promise I’ll make it up to you seeing as I’ve decided to add to what J has sent and am including my favourite bleach (if your hair is light you don’t have to bleach it but it will wash out after a few washes as the bleach opens your pores and the colour lasts longer – I don’t bleach Fysh’s hair hence it washing out quicker than mine) and the conditioner I love (don’t laugh, that stuff is the shit I promise) as well as some gloves and clips.

So if you want to just add streaks, have some holiday hair or be bold and do your whole damn head then you definitely want in on this!

  1. I think it is time that I do something funky with my head…. I dont think rainbow hair just yet but maybe start with one color and then work up to two and soon and so on…

        1. I’ll have to check when I’m home and on my iMac and can actually get into rafflecopter ;) so you’re going to have to wait till tomorrow

  2. Needing to touch up my blueypurple hair but haven’t seen/used this brand. How long does this last? And how does it weigh up against Manic Panic (cuz as much as I love Manic Panic, it gets toooo ridiculously expensive on long hair)

    1. I MUCH prefer it over MP. MP was my first love, my introduction to mermaid hair and was great but I found it just didn’t hold colour and yeah it got rather pricey. I was going through two tubs every three weeks. Then found Kungu. Now I can touch up whenever I like and not feel the pinch. This stuff holds up pretty well against kungu, and definitely beats MP with hold and longevity and price.
