Fysh caught a cold or something last week (can I blame socializing at the gym? I guess it's a good thing though) and has had a miff wet cough and he has been waking me up in the evenings with it. I know it's not his fault but holy crap I am exhausted! My whole carefully cultivated work schedule is in sy moer because I simply can't get up and at em at 6am when I've had hardly any sleep in the evening. Which is terrible because I worked...

Who is a daughter of the forest? She is the girl who goes hiking in a dress, not because she is impractical, but because she is perfectly at home among the wild shadows. The forest daughter is that grown woman who comes home with pine cones in her purse. She’s probably got a stash of creek rocks somewhere, or a few favorite leaves drying on her porch. She goes on vacation and brings home a birch bark curl, a grey fuzzle of arctic moss, a delicate fern or wildflower pressed between the...

Fysh wanted pancakes yesterday but we were house sitting and I couldn't find all the things we needed so I promised that we could have some today. But standing in the kitchen exhausted I really couldn't be arsed to stand there making damn pancakes the whole time so instead I cheated and went with what I thought would be the quicker option - waffles. But of course you can't just give a kid who asked for pancakes waffles, because obviously they aren't the same thing. So I pulled out...

Fysh might be pretty obsessed with unicorns but he has an even bigger love for wolves. Dogs in general, huskies above all breeds but wolves the best. And as it turns out that despite being the notorious villain of fables and fairy stories for centuries they are high intelligent and sociable animals that have done rather little to warrant it's vicious beast reputation. Five Fabulous Facts : Wolves have about 200 million scent cells. Humans have only about 5 million. Wolves can smell other animals more than one mile (1.6 kilometers)...

The tooth faerie came to visit us again last night, this time she had to answer a note that came with the tooth > do you eat teeth? When I was pregnant and before the concepts of bunnies that deliver chocolate eggs and fat men that bring gifts became something he could fathom on I was dead set on not telling him these westernized holidays capitalized by hallmark to extort money out of parents. But then his granny had other plans and thus the fat man, tooth faerie and bunny...

Oddly enough when Fysh was born I never really had much of a problem getting him to sleep. He was a little colicky until I switched him over to soy but other than that he would sleep 6 hours easily between feeds. From around age 2 though he decided that sleep was for the weak. Day time naps? Who needs those really? When bedtime rolls around there's an excuse for EVERYTHING. He needs the loo, the blanket isn't right, the curtain isn't closed all the way. He's hungry. He needs...

Yesterday my tiny little prem baby turned EIGHT! He's gone from a little 1.7kg sprite to a 35kg unicorn with a mind of his own and the attitude of an 18 year old at times. I think he's still a bit affected by everyone bailing on his party last year that this year he didn't want one, instead he asked for a unicorn cake, a piñata and believe it or not...

Fysh saw found a yo-yo while at a playdate and actually got it right, well sort of. He asked if he could get one for his birthday so I said sure I'll try find one for him. He ended up spotting one at the crazy store when I popped in to get smoothie glasses with reusable straws so I got it. A little early seeing as his birthday is only this weekend but it's kept him entertained while I was cramming in all the work possible so that I...

I like to think that I can be spontaneous and don't need a rigid schedule but I'm just lying to myself. While I don't write it all down and list it hour by hour like some people I do plan out my day and week in my head and if anyone messes with my planning I get agitated and sometimes rather snappy and mean. I've been thinking I need to keep a schedule and then send those around me a link to it so they can schedule themselves in...

We were at the opening of The Kids Gym on Wednesday and they have these really cool classes the kids can do, one in particular is The NinjaZone where they learn to be ninja's. Basically it's a mix of martial arts, gymnastics and parkour. So the kids are having a fantastic time because who doesn't want to be a ninja right? But they're getting a full workout without even it even registering so it's great. Also, not everyone is made for group sports or ball sports but kids...
