I hated Art history but in order to take my art subjects as Higher Grade I had to have it in High School. Nothing bored me more though. I am pretty sure I slept or bunked most of those classes and just learned what I needed to in order to pass. Because of this I am one of those "dumb artists" who don't really know the history of things and the info I did learn for exams is long long gone bar for perhaps a few things that stuck...

Last night we took a bus into town to watch a bunch of stuntmen get set on fire to attempt setting a Guinness world record. Can you image being set on fire and walking ON FIRE for 30 seconds? It was just the best thing to see, like effing wow. They walked down in this long line wearing the full gear and as Fysh pointed out it looked kinda like someone had set zombies on fire and he wasn't far off. The gear that they wear over their face along...

My mom's Aunt is visiting for the festive season and she's never been to Kirstenbosch , we checked and apparently the boomslang (canopy walk) is wheel chair friendly so we thought hell why not, Tuesday's are seniors day, she'd love it. Please note for anyone who wants to take a family member of friend or even yourself to it, the Canopy walk is NOT wheel chair friendly. You can't get to it unless you're willing to pull said wheelchair up a shit load of stairs or attempt to get...

The years seem to be getting shorter as I get older, I don't know if it's because I'm just so busy trying to stay above water with all the bills and work and schooling or if it's because, well am not really sure but it's going by faster. Despite it galloping past though a lot happened, so much so that I barely really remember most of it and have to use Instagram to look back on everything. Thank goodness for photo memories! I think the most noteworthy part of 2017...

"Mom, what would happen if we didn't have the moon?" Don't you love how kids become little dehydrated philosophers as soon as it's bedtime? But it's a pretty good question cause the only answer I could come up with on the spot was that it has an effect on the tides. Give me a small break though, he's had a cough and kept me awake for the past two nights. I'm exhausted. So we googled what would happen if the moon blew up and apparently there are many ways the Moon actually...

Still not in the whole festive spirit we went to mom's for weinachten anyway and I actually had a decent time. For once there was no one drinking too much wine and making nasty comments and we didn't have to force conversations. Instead Shamus was there for the first time in a while (yes my dad still does xmas with his x wife and her husband and it's pretty awesome) and he brought along the kid that crossed the Atlantic with him. Again for the first year in a while...

This is my favorite time of year, well usually it is. It's magical, it's the time of year all religions put aside their differences and celebrate a pagan holiday. inside joke. Usually I start humming carols in November already and I binge watch all the Hallmark holiday movies. I haven't even seen one this year and the only time I've sung along to any carols is when I'm in a shop and only because singing along seems to help me not really notice them - my brains logic apparently. It's...

2 years ago, only days after her 5th birthday the most splendiferous soul lost her stunning and feisty little blonde darling. That's not quite right, lost leaves a space open for something to be found again and as much as I wish it could happen reanimation isn't a reality. She was robbed of a life full of happiness, frustration and all the laughter with her darling. Today would have been her 7th birthday. If you are any sort of a human being I'm sure you'll understand that today many...

Dreamtopia is the sweetest imaginary world created by Barbie's youngest sister, Chelsea. And I think that it's one of those you might have missed if you aren't a hardcore Barbie fan though, I know we did and we've seen all the movies several times already. The worlds remind me so much of Fysh's imagination. He always says he isn't good at thinking up things but then we'll be driving or just doing nothing important and he starts with "imagine/what if...

** I decided to write this because so many people commented on my Instagram stories that they were thinking of buying it this holiday. I know I said I'm going to stay brunette for a while, and I did. A whole few days ;) Decided that this whole short brunette thing just doesn't work for me so I headed out to the shops to get some a peroxide kit. mainly because the color just sits stronger and longer when you peroxide it. Thankfully the way I generally do my hair...

WrapStars is the new kid in the neighborhood and they introduced themselves by turning one of my Charlie and Beastie drawings into a vinyl cover for my MacBook! All the heart eyes!!! You know how just the thought of covering your books (or your kids books now) with contact paper makes you cringe and want to run away? Well because this looks like that and you need to be sort of precise I thought oi vey I'm totally going to mess this up. But I didn't! Wiped down the top and...

We have been attending the Canal Walk summer holiday event for a good 12 years now I think. There are still photos on my moms fridge of us at one of the earlier ones where my brother was about Fysh's age and I've taken Fysh every year since his first xmas as well. We've played in the snow, we've had ice cream in a giant freezer next to a moose, we've played with sled dogs and we've slid down a massive slide and hurt our coccyx. So many...

We got to go to the Dino's Alive launch opening and it was SO MUCH FUN! It wasn't what I had expected but then at the same time I'm not really sure what it was that I actually expected so I wasn't let down if that makes sense. Fysh had loads of fun. I think his highlight was the VR headsets that when on apparently (I was Insta mom taking photos and videos so I didn't try) made you feel like you were on a rollercoaster going through the...

In 2013 I had a Britney moment. I wasn't on my meds, my hair was long and I happened to walk past the CANSA shaveathon thing happening at the V&A while we were wasting time before a birthday party. I put R50 on the table and told them to shave it all off. The guy hesitated, tried to convince me that I should get it sprayed and I said if he didn't do it I would do it myself. So they tied it up into a bunch of little...

I go through erasers like you won't believe it, not necessarily because I finish them but mainly cause I keep misplacing them. Also I love them. I have ones like little rubber ducks, I have chocolate scented ones and cupcake ones. Erasers are just awesome. We got a set of Crazy Erazi and the unicorn keeps saying he can't believer they are actually erasers, they look exactly like the stationary we get in the shops, and he's right. Have you seen them yet? You can get them from most...

Fysh and I got to go watch the preview of Coco recently and we loved it, I know he did as well cause we discussed it afterwards. A heads up for anyone going (because of course you are going to go) - this is a Disney movie...

As I type this our very first YouTube video is uploading to the account I've had for 4 years...

A while we watched some weird B grade movie and in it there was a lady trying to calm a kid down by telling him interesting facts. One of them was that the seat she was sitting on wasn't just any purple, it was imperial purple and I can't remember all of it but what stuck with me was that back in the day they would get this color from a marine snail! I ended up googling it and it's freaking true. Tyrian purple, also known as Phoenician purple,...

Facebook reminded me that yesterday marks 4 years of being back on my meds full time. This also means that it's been 4 years of government clinic hours, figuring things out and navigating my way through the system. There are a lot of nay-sayers and people who turn their noses up at public health care because "it's only for the poor" or "but it's so dirty" and the one I've heard so often "the Doctors clearly aren't good enough to work at public hospitals, you shouldn't go there". The thing...
