Fuck your little shop, lenticular cards and stikeez collectibles

All these fucking collectable shit things. I will give it to checkers though, of the “crazes” they definitely win at coolest because seriously, they make me feel like the BFG and a kid again and shop shop  is FUN. I was pretty stoked when I saw the little shop things thinking yay for a fun one. BUT a trip to the shops today changed my mind.

1) I went out of my way to go to checkers for a loaf of bread instead of popping into the spar 2 min away. (Because diesel ain’t cheap we shop where we can walk to!)

2) I made sure I spent the R150 to get that fucking little plastic thing even though all I really needed was bread and marmite.

Now for these two points I resent myself, cause I could have and should have just left it. But I didn’t cause the kid is sick and has been bugging me to collect these things.

These things are great in a sense, we’re finally getting back something for all the money we spend at the shops. BUUUUT only those with enough money to spend x amount each time. You see what they don’t take into account is the people like me who don’t always spend R150 on the nose cause we have a fucking budget or lack of one.

Do you know how hard it is to explain to your kid WHY the auntie in front of you got 7+ of these little things where as mommy only gets 1 because unlike the lady ahead of us mommy had to add up everything in her head as it goes in to the trolley so she knows her card won’t decline at check out.

I am fucking sick of it. All these things do is make us judge each other more. It makes my kid jealous of yours because he only has two but your kid brags cause she has all of them plus doubles. This crap? This is where it starts. This is where it’s instilled in our kids the pecking order or status.

AND THIS IS FUCKING BULLSHIT.

It’s enough that I try raise my kid as best I can on what little I have and am able to pull in each month. It’s enough that I’ve had to teach him the media sucks, that hand me downs are awesome and that we don’t need a fancy tv just because everyone we know has one.

Your fun collectibles? They are a slap in the face. A constant reminder of this sucky hole I am in. They are making me envy friends.

I just thought you should know that. Cause I highly doubt you took peoples feelings into consideration. You just saw a bandwagon and hopped right on up there.

Yours Sincerely.

The average parent.

I love this post! Great for being kickass and not taking nonsense of judgment anymore!

I just dropped a post myself to help ladies get back to support each other and waving their bras in the air not bloody feeling liberated by treading on each other with their Steve Madden heels.

As my 74 year old mother would say “I am just bloody up with it put” enough is enough!

Well done for speaking out at a corporate and why do I say this? Because here by the way is a company who sells green eco bags at the same teller as they’re selling millions of tiny PLASTIC Toys? What the actual? Are you save the planet or destroy it?

Anyway I loved this post and you’re awesome and they obviously didn’t think shit through properly!

    Have a lovely evening!
    Cee

Yeah I totally hear you… The supermarkets here do that kind of thing all the time as well… And then a few months after you can buy a massive bag of Little Shop toys for $2 at the op shop. So yeah I’m not a fan…

I think we are stuck with this type of thing now forever – like the rest of the world has been for a long time. I guess it is up to explaining to our kids. I learned my lesson with the Stickeez – my mom bought them each a case – it was close to impossible to get 3 collections but the moms at school helped. Now we have a deal – we make one collection and they can go and swop at school but we are not aiming to complete it and we get what we can.

We got ebucks with our bank and those ebucks buy checkers vouchers. For the first time ever the free giveaway is not a complete imposition. Thankfully for us Checkers is close, cheaper than Spar and helps with giving me free money for having ebucks.

The Angry Birds shit was the thing that made me see red. Also because I refuse to buy the toys which results in an enormous amountil of whining so now I can’t take the kids to the store with me at all.

Yeah, with the angry birds it didn’t really hit me that hard in the beginning cause we have a friend there and she gives us like 4 cards at a time even if we don’t spend the R150 but then of course it came to the “we have enough stickers can we buy a bird” and I’m like erm… NO I DON’T HAVE THE MONEY DAMNIT. So I have all these stickers and no damn birds and the kid is all sad every time he seems them. I don’t think people without kids understand really seeing as those without kids have told me my rant is stupid :/

I’m so happy that K is still little enough for us to keep him away from it all.

I don’t shop much at Checkers and Spar so have managed to miss those crazes so far but we were in for it with the Stickeez. I am constantly finding chewed up Stickeez all over the yard and house as the pup thinks they are great chew toys. It’s all a marketing ploy that definitely works, sad to say, and unfortunately those that can’t afford to spend large amounts of money are the victims. And yeah, the impact on the environment like Cee says!! Hard to explain to a 6 year old.
