You know, it’s really funny. During April when I couldn’t post cause I was doing the giveaways I had SO much I wanted to say and blog but couldn’t interrupt the flow. But since being on a hiatus for a week on our road trip I’ve sort of come back with fokkol to say. Shit has been so boring around here and yet I’ve busy all the time. But busy with shit that’s not really interesting to write about. All I do at the moment is crochet, cook food, eat food, teach Fysh, read a book, sleep and repeat. So here’s a what’s happening with us currently just so I can get something out and a flow to start going again :)
Currently we’re waiting in anticipation for baby Vanilla to arrive next Tuesday/Wednesday and her partner Nimbus will be arriving soon as I can track down someone else driving down from Jozi/pretoria (If you know someone please let me know i’d be so damn grateful!)
For those who know mr Prickles the tenrec – he’s still alive, we’re not replacing him. He hibernates most of the year and is a grumpy bastard. I’ve wanted a HEDGEHOG since I lived in Germany and when I got the opportunity to adopt Vanilla and Nimbus I was like “let’s find a driver NOW” hahaha.
I have been so busy crocheting and I still have a bunch of orders to finish so my fingers are numb and I’m gatvol but it keeps me busy. I just wish I worked faster. I made something for myself this month which I very rarely do. It’s a big fat chunky hood with ears, not 100% the way I wanted it but I did the quick version haha. Now I just need to find somewhere to wear it to haha. I have two friends wanting them in black but as of yet they aren’t available as a buy, am not taking anymore orders till I’ve caught up on the ones I have now as the ones I took on the past two months have been BIG orders not single item order – one was 4 tails, the other 5 tails and 2 cowls. It’s great but crocheting doesn’t pay the bills (it does put food on the table though so that’s great).
Business is slow and the bills are piling up but I finally have a few designs coming in which is fantastic cause it means I can back pay a few accounts. I also just designed the Camp NaNo mug for next month. I’m going to be having fun finishing off 5000 words for “Charlie and the BookDragon” am so excited!
It means I have to write 167 words a day which is a LOT less than the 1667 I write a day during November NaNo but this is a tricky book, it’s not like the normal YA I’ve written so yeah. At least it’s a small amount so I should be able to keep up with it so long as I can manage to remember to put an hour aside a day so I can actually do it!
I found my new vice this month – Albany make a cinnamon and popcorn flavoured bread and dammit there goes my no bread rule that I’ve been following pretty well. Fysh is loving it and has been seen walking around with “raw toast” with no butter nada just munching happily. Guess I need to go get another loaf! You can find them at spar/pnp/checkers but they don’t get a lot of loaves at a time so you need to try find out what days are delivery days ;) Trust me, it’s AMAZING! And I apologise to your ass in advance hahaha. Also pickles… I randomly got a jar and dammit I forgot how much I loves these suckers.
At the moment I’m reading Demon Road by Derek Landy which is the first book in his latest series. When Readers Warehouse sent it I actually misunderstood and somehow thought it was part of the first series so I put it aside thinking I’ll have to get the others first (this has happened before) but I took with to Lynedoch last Saturday to take a photo of it for my book instagram (justanotherbookdragon) and The Person was so fixated on Brexit I ended up sitting in bed bored so I picked it up and realised HEY! It’s the first. I felt like an idiot hahaha but I didn’t have my kindle on my so I started reading it… well 300 pages and a “turn off the light or go to the spare room” later I am dying to find another gap to finish off the last 200 pages!
I audio book lately because my reading took a dive when I started crocheting for other people then a week or two back I realised hell man I can audio book while I crochet!!! So now when I pop a book on and listen while I work (I don’t crochet weekends anymore so weekends are dedicated to making memories with my boys and paperbacks before bed). Currently on my audio playlist is Miss Peregrines home for peculiar children by Ranson Riggs. It’s coming out as a movie soon and I have this thing where I can’t watch a “book to movie” if I haven’t read the book first. And I’ve seen the trailer and it’s definitely a movie I HAVE to see haha.
I’ve been trying to work on an illustration project but it’s been slow going. I finished off 5 of 10 and 3 of them I have to redo because either the colours came out sucky, the damn cat walked over it with it’s dirty paws or it came out perfect but I put my thumb down and a corner of it got a paint splurge (the last one peeves me the most) which means clearly sitting and painting in bed for this project is NOT a good idea which is why tomorrow I’m clearing off the crap collector also known as a corner desk and turning it back into a design station (it used to be till my dad stayed with me for a while and claimed it as his desk which them turned into a “just leave it on the desk” kinda space).
Most of the series i’ve been watching the past while have all finished or are on season breaks or whatever the fuck it is you call it. I quite like the whole CSI and Criminal Minds vibe so I decided to finally give NCIS LA a shot seeing as I used to give it a miss (because come on, NCIS isn’t NCIS without Gibbs and the team). On season 3 now and will admit I’m hooked now and so dying for Kensi and Diggs to just hook up already dammit.
Our lemon tree is in full ripe lemon baring mode so Fysh has made it his mission to pick all those he can reach which means we are sitting with a heap of them and no clue what to do with them. So I dug out the juicer my old housemate left me, made Fysh peel all the lemons he picked (home grown lemons have a chunky easy to peel skin not like the store bought ones) and we cooked up some lemonade!
1 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 3/4 cups sugar
4 cups water
> pour all into a pot and bring to the boil, stir till sugar is dissolved then take it off and let it cool. VOILA! Tasty fresh homemade lemonade.
I used to use honey but because of the bee situation I’m avoiding all honey products (and so should you!)
And that is how damn boring I am at the moment hahaha!!! Tonight though I’m dropping Fysh off at granny and then I’m off to a ladies night with a gorgeous friend of mine and we’re going to go watch Me Before You :)
I’ll spam you with photos soon as Vanilla arrives!
