banting and boxing

On sunday evening we were standing at the front of the line ordering pizza (I know I know, moment of weakness) and The Person punched me on the shoulder (it’s something I always do when I get bored and it looks like he’s picked up on it) so I punched him back and he punched me back and so it went, progressively getting harder with each punch until I gave it a little more force than I usually do. My punch ended the play fight. My bad.

So what does he do? He goes out and buys me a boxing bag with weighted gloves then installs it in my car port so that I now have a bag at home I can take all my frustrations and pent up energy out on. Because his words “you’re a happier person when you’re boxing” and he’s right, I love it, it’s definitely a happy place for me but I haven’t been able to afford the gym fees to attend classes every month so I’ve gotten fat and lazy and with every kg I put on I hate myself a little more and become a little less happy.

The amazing thing is that he’s been supportive the whole way and even though I put on all the weight i lost last year he hasn’t complained so I’m hitting the bag partly for him and mostly for me. I want to find that happy space again.

I’ve also decided I’m going to give this banting thing or LCHF (i don’t know if there’s a difference or not, whatever) a try seeing as i see it working for so many of my friends. I attended a talk where they help you introduce LCHF lifestyle into the whole family including the kids into it and got an awesome recipe book (I have one to giveaway soon!) which I started using and Fysh loved the one so much he had seconds and asked me to make it again the next evening! So hey, maybe we can do this. I’ve weighed myself (and died of disgust) but am on a mission now. So this is me, I have a boxing bag and am banting. Who am I even?

Are you banting or LCHFing? Any tips or tricks or advice for me?

  1. I’m also looking into this LCHF thing. I looked at photos of myself from a recent event and wanted to barf. Are you going to be vegetarian banting? I’ll share what works for me if you do the same :)

    1. I’ve been vegan for a few years now but recently started eating meat again which I think is another reason I put on weight. I’m going to keep it to chicken when The Person visits cause it’s easier and less fussy but for the most part I’m sticking to vegetarian/vegan when it’s just Fysh and myself

  2. I’m also on a banting mission at the moment. Los 8kg in a short while when I did it before and 5 kg another time… Never managed to stay on for long though Im a chocaholic 😁

  3. I’ve been gluten and sugar free for about 18 months now- not brave enough to go full banting, but I pretty much eat fresh meat and veggies and very little processed food and I’ve managed to lose almost 30kg (I’m 300g away). I still have a ways to go, but I just can’t seem to give up my rice and potatoes :)

  4. I LCHP but purely because it works for me. Carbs DO make me feel hungry after I eat them and it also bloats me so the less I eat of it, the better I feel.
I think there is a difference between banting and LCHP, in the sense that some banters are anal and will crucify you if you have a crumb of anything carb.
Just keep at it, and in the end, you don’t have to eat NO carbs, just be smart with the carbs you choose and amount you eat. That’s what works for me.
What’s also great is that every recipe can be basically modified to be less carby and more proteiny.
Also look into Meizza (mince [pork, beef or chicken mince can work] pizza you make with a mince base and toppings) because it is goooooood like a bomb rocket

  5. Yeah well I went to gym 2 weeks ago and was rather horrified with what the scale/body fat measurements told me. I knew I had picked up weight but to see that almost half of me is fat was a real eye-opener. So it is serious business now. I created a weight loss page on FB if you are interested in joining us. There are just a few of us on there at the moment. I created it earlier this year but then lost interest but have now revived it. I joined Sleekgeek and am on another group as well called Losing it but I prefer something small with not too many people. Let me know if you want me to add you, if not no problem.

I am trying to go low carb as well but am totally useless at sticking to ‘diets’ and any eating plans that are really strict. I have started gymming again but have to take it slow because of my back. When I weighed myself on Sunday after a week of being good, I had lost 1.2kg body fat so something is working, yay!!
